-
Learning to say no without guilt, recognizing where you have been over-functioning, and handling the pushback that usually follows when you start doing things differently.
-
The internal critic that will not let up, chronic self-doubt, and the difference between accountability and punishment.
-
Desire discrepancy, difficulty with arousal or performance, shame, and the ways sexual wellbeing and general mental health affect each other.
More detail on the dedicated sex therapy page.
-
Affirming, informed care for LGBTQIA+ clients, including exploration of identity, coming out, family response, and the everyday weight of navigating a world that is not always safe.
-
Generalized worry, panic, low mood, burnout, perfectionism, and the specific exhaustion of holding it together while feeling like you are barely managing. Also the practical side: coping strategies, time management, and the stress of a schedule that has no slack in it.
-
Difficulty saying what you need, recurring fights that go nowhere, patterns of over-giving or over-explaining, conflict avoidance, and the loneliness of being in a relationship or a family where you do not feel known or seen.
-
Moving, changing careers, graduating, becoming a parent, ending a relationship, losing someone, entering a new decade, or that disorienting stretch where the structure you built your life around has changed and you have not yet built the next one.
-
Deciding whether to stay or go, recovering after a relationship ends, rebuilding after betrayal, and the particular work of figuring out who you are when a long partnership has ended.
-
Sexual, emotional and physical trauma, including abuse in childhood, assault, coercive relationships, and the experiences people carry for years without ever calling them trauma out loud.
Some people come to individual therapy knowing exactly what they want to change. Others just know something feels off and they cannot name it yet. Both are good reasons to start. You do not need a diagnosis, a crisis, or the right vocabulary to begin… you need a therapist who will take the time to understand what your life actually looks like, and who will be honest with you about what will help.
Individual Therapy at Candid Therapy & Counseling is one-to-one work with a licensed counselor who sees a small number of clients by design. Sessions are fifty minutes, held in person at our Old City Philadelphia or Newtown, Bucks County offices, or by secure video anywhere in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Most people start with a free fifteen-minute consultation call so you can get a feel for how Lauren works before committing to anything.
